My road to cycling

Last weekend I decided to leave the city behind and visit Collingwood. I knew I wanted to take advantage of the hills and trails around there in preparation for my Kili hike, and there was also some talk about going cycling, so I packed a bunch of different workout clothes and shoes to be ready for different sports. After heavy traffic on Hwy 400 and a couple of drenching summer storms we made it to Collingwood and went to The Huron Club, where ceviche tacos with beer made me swirl into the Georgian Bay grove.
At 7 am on Saturday, Meca's house was the meeting point for few serious looking cyclists - Igor, Deba and Cvele, and after ensuring everything was in place we set off in direction of Wasaga. Meca lent me his son's road bike and after getting used to the gear switching, I was flying. We passed Wasaga, then made a big circle through the fields to come back to the shore and cycle back. I managed to lose the group in Wasaga and complete most of the return ride by myself. The coffee in what my friends call 'Bandera' in downtown Collingwood was a nice treat after finishing ~70km run in under 3 hours. Here are the details:

In the afternoon we took the kids to the beach and we all enjoyed it in spite of the heavy wind. Afterwards, mom, the kids and I drove to Blue Mountain village and did a hike to the top and back down. Now, that is called a solid workout!

I liked the summer look of Blue however it seemed a bit too touristy and inactive for my taste and I missed the sharp winter air and the sound of skies on the packed snow.

The next morning Meca and I met at 8 am with Igor to cycle Rob Roy scenic highway to the top of  Blue Mountain. Now, there were few hills on this road where I thought I would not make it, but I only slipped off of the bike once (and was told that this would not have happened had I been clipped in, so there is a reason to go shopping!) and stood my ground the rest of the time. We finished the ride with a 20km sprint to Bandera for the morning coffee routine.

The weekend ended with the visit to Meca's boat in Thornberry and a sailing outing... While the kids and the brave ones jumped for a swim I enjoyed my beer and pondered over a great weekend.
