'If it was a year ago today, we would have been moving now', my daughter said upon waking up this morning. 'I am happy we are not moving and can cozy up all day long', I answered. And so we did… We got rid of the Christmas Tree by throwing it over the balcony. My son thought this was the craziest thing we have ever done, and I thought that soon he will not dare admit that anything he does with his mom can be considered fun or crazy. We then cleaned the place after the last night's party. Seeing kids eager to restore the order made me realize that they feel at home here, and so do I. The uneasiness from our moving day a year ago is now a fading memory, our new life is not new any more, it is simply our life. Later, we lit up the fireplace, played board games, watched a movie and did some embarassing singing… Best day in a while...
Reflecting back over the past year, what springs to mind are simple moments that make our ordinary days special.
In March my daughter turned seven. She and I had an awesome week skiing in Adirondacks.
My son made Eiffel Tower out of Kapla blocks.
With spring also started the soccer in our park...
… and I put together a little oasis on my balcony.
In July, my mom visited and we made few trips to Georgian Bay.
In August, I climbed Kilimanjaro. It is not the reaching the top that stands out, but rather the simplicity of letting go and experiencing the energy of people and nature around me.
In September my son started new school and all our worries about the transition proved unnecessary. In October he ran cross country for the new school and, surprising himself, came in 16th in city semi-finals. Of course, nothing ever beats hockey!
And someone grew into a serious ballerina.
Fall is my favourite time of the year… like always, I took time to soak in the sun and get ready for...
… the icy December.
Happy 2014 and hope your every day is special in a simple happy way!
… and also, never stop being crazy!
